In Memoriam: Daddy the Pit Bull

Cesar Millan, all his family and friends, his staff and volunteers, and dog lovers all around the world today will mourn the passing of one of the most loyal, trusting, well-balanced, and influential pit bull ambassadors the world has ever known. Daddy, Cesar’s longtime friend and partner in canine rehabilitation, died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday the 19th of February 201. He was sixteen years old.

He lived each day of those sixteen years happy and fulfilled as Cesar’s right-hand-“man,” helping to shape the behavior of entire generations of dogs by showing them the way to balance. He stood as champion for calm-submissive pit bulls everywhere, and was instrumental in helping to repair their image as violent, savage, uncontrollable beasts. He successfully battled cancer and weathered chemotherapy, and even got the opportunity to present at the 56th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards!

His name is now added to that honorable roster of dogs gone by whose influence is still felt today, and which includes some of Cesar’s beloved childhood heroes: "Rin-Tin-Tin." "Lassie." … "Daddy."

He has been immortalized by Dog Whisperer fans in all mediums, from painting, to photographs, to charcoal drawings and papier-mâché sculpture. And, of course, he lives on in his work, reflected in the balance and calm-submission of his protégé Junior, the countless animals to whom he was a positive role model, and in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him as a calm, sweet, and mellow example of a widely misunderstood breed.
Ten Canine Commandments

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me - it's crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry at me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entertainment and your friends. I have only you.
5. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
6. Be aware of however you treat me, I'll never forget it.
7. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hands, but that I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or I've been out in the sun or in the cold too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
9. Take care of me when I get old. You too, will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: 'I can't bear to watch it', 'let it happen in my absence' or 'I am tired of you'. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.
Another Monster Rescued

Another monster appeared in our backyard. This time, it was a tinier monster than the last one. The last one was of course now known as Alaska. This one did not come with a name and so Daddy just called her 'Mimi'. He said that the first thing he heard from this monster was a tiny meow that sounded like "mi mi".
Mommy was the first who spotted this little monster and she thought that it was just visiting our backyard. After one hour, the little critter was still there and meowing as though looking for her own mommy. Daddy was taking a nap and when he got up, Mom told him about the monster. He opened the back door and caught the frightened animal. For a little creature, Mimi was struggling with all her might. Her little heart was about to jump out of her frail chest.
Mommy opened a can of cat food and scooped some out to serve the monster. Oh, what a monster she was! The way she ate... it was like she had not eaten for ages. Poor little monster! She must be so so hungry. I knew that experience when I was a puppy. However, in the House of Kangs, nobody goes hungry here. Everybody is well-fed and has round belly.
Daddy killed some ticks from the body of this kitten. Then he told Mommy about the critter's eyes, "They are tearing badly".
Our parents then decided that they had to bring this monster to see Dr. Pam who is our Aunt and personal Vet. We like Dr. Pam a lot because she is always so kind to us all. She is also a very good doctor and will definitely be able to help Mimi.
Well, back to the cute little monster, the last time we saw her was when Mommy and Daddy drove her in our family car to visit Dr. Pam.

After a couple of hours, Daddy and Mommy returned. They carried a box and we thought it was holding the monster. Goodness and I were jumping up and down in excitement. When Mommy opened the box, it was not the monster but a pressure cooker. Mine, oh, mine, I got all excited for nothing.
Daddy told me (since I am the eldest and smartest) that according to Dr. Pam, Mimi's eyes were infected and needed treatment. The good doctor had kept the monster for further observation and maybe somebody will adopt this furry monster. If that were to happen, then we will never see Mimi again.

Her Majesty, Mercy the Queen

Written with my very own paws - Mercy the Queen
You will notice that in this blog, I have declared my sovereign rule over all the critters in my house. Apart from Dad and Mom, I am the Queen!
I earned this title the hard way - Danny the black puppy had grown up. He is as tall as I am. One day, he was chewing on a bone and I decided that he had enough of chewing, So I took it from him... politely. You see, Dad and Mom had taught us all to be polite with one another - even to the Monsters. (Those who just read my blog - 'monsters' is a euphemism for cats).

Who Is The Queen? |
Danny did not want to oblige my politeness. He showed his yellow teeth and curled up his ugly nose. He lowered his head, let out a slow growl that most probably would frighten most critters. His paws were over the bone and his mouth gripped it tight. Before he could even say, 'jumping monkey', I already got the bone in my mouth. I was strong and fast... I mean really fast. For my stout size, most canines would be awe-struck by my speed. Daddy told Mom that I behave like the Hong Kong actor, Sammo Hung. I rather be known as Jackie Chan or Jet Li.
Back to the story about Danny's rebellion - and so I had the bone. As I settled down to chew, I saw a dark figure suddenly flashed beside me. Thanks to my instinctive reflect action - I rolled and was back on my four feet. The next thing I did was to jump on that black figure and went for his jugular. Then I realized that it was my 'brother' - Danny the Rebel. So I did not clamp my jaws hard but gripped him hard enough to let him know who was boss.
Danny was no push-over either and he tried to bite my front paws. This time, he really got me mad and so I pinned him down with my massive weight (not as massive as Sammo Hung's) and gave him a bit of sisterly advice. That advice was in the form of a harder bite to his right front paw.
Woof! Woof! The fight was over because Danny was screaming in pain. Daddy rushed out and this sad case of a canine went screaming and limping all over the front porch. By that time Daddy was checking his paws. After a while, Daddy smiled and said, ' no wound'.
Woof! Woof! I knew it all along that this sissy black canine was very thin-skinned. So, from that day on, Danny keeps his distance whenever I am chewing on anything. He has learned that I am the boss among the critters.
