Quality Time With Our Parents

Goodness and I have the best parents. Daddy and Mommy are not just dog owners but real loving and caring parents. They really spoil us. They know that we need lots of sleep and so they allow us to sleep anywhere in the house. We know that some dog owners do not allow their dogs in the house. Some tie or cage their dogs the whole day so much so that the poor animals are more like prisoners than companions.

Daddy and Mommy always welcome us into the house. I like to sleep at the landing on the top of the stairs while Goodness loves the bottom of the stairs. If we block their way, Mommy and Daddy never complain. They just step over our bodies. Daddy says that in the past, people kicked the dogs if they slept in their path.

Most afternoons, Daddy and Mommy allow us to sun bask on the front porch. We get to sleep under the car if Mommy is at home. We also get to sleep in the master bedroom and Daddy's study. The only place that we are not allowed to sleep is on the bed. Well, I should say 'beds'. This means that the bed in the master bedroom and the one in guest room are out of bound. We have very understanding parents who allow us to roam the house freely. At one time, they did not allow us to sleep on the sofa but after some gentle persuasions, we are now allowed to sleep there too.

My language of love is touch. I really love it when Daddy or Mommy stroke me and scratch the top of my head. I love all the affectionate hugs and kisses. In my opinion, Goodness has no language of love at all. As long as she has a bone or something to chew, she will be contented. Daddy disagrees with me. He tells Mommy that Goodness' language of love is gift. Every time, when our parents come home, Goodness will pick up a bone or toy and present it to them.

Another reason why Goodness and I appreciate our parents is because they spend lots of quality time with us. Here are some of the way how Daddy and Mommy spend time with us.

Chit Chat Time
You will be surprise how much Goodness and I understand human language. Daddy is usually the one who communicates verbally with us. Just in case you misunderstood, our Daddy is not senile. Why? Because he is sharp enough to understand our language. He can tell what we mean by the different tones of our bark.

Anyway, he loves to discuss with us the intricate details of his sermons, articles and even books. We love Daddy because every time, when he talks to us, he will always smile. Maybe the neighbors think that he is weird, talking to us at the front porch but apparently Daddy does not care.

Photo Snapping Time
Daddy and Mommy owns two cameras and they love to take pictures. They have thousands of pictures of their loved ones, friends, church and ministry events. We are glad to announce that Goodness and I are now their primary photography subjects. Daddy will say, "Look here, look here" as we run around putting our best poses for the camera.

Mommy's Lap is the Best!
When we were very little, we slept on Daddy's chest. Now his chest is too small for the two of us. Even our heads are too heavy for his chest. We absolutely enjoy sleeping on Mommy's lap. The signal for a real fun time of play and then sleep is when she sits on the floor and calls for us. Goodness and I gaily dash to her and place our heads on her lap. We feel absolutely safe with Mommy petting us to sleep.

Working with Daddy and Mommy
Another great time of togetherness is when we lie at Daddy's feet while he works on the laptop. He always caresses us with his feet. What a joy to feel this tender touch of love from Daddy. Even though we are not exactly lap dogs, Mommy loves to scoop one of us up onto her lap. As she types and edits on her laptop, one of us will quietly lie on her lap. Mommy loves us heaps.

Great Chasing Games
We love to play with our parents. We are so blessed because Daddy and Mommy always buy good toys for us. At one time, they bought those rubber balls that have light in them. We were so thrilled by the blinking light and so we had many games of play catch. Then after two weeks, we completely demolished the balls and all the blinking mechanism came out. Daddy quickly got rid of the balls and their mechanism because he was afraid that we might accidentally swallow them.
Subsequently, our parents bought us ropes, chewy bones and many types of dog toys. They even made toys with old clothes and handkerchiefs. Another game that we like is chasing Daddy around the parked car. We give him a head start then we quickly catch up with him. The penalty for being caught is having us jumping and kissing him on his nose.

The game that I love most is getting into Mommy's car when she arrives home. The moment she opens the door, in I jump! Mommy would laugh, pet me on the head, hug me and call for Daddy to join the game. I will climb to the backseats and sniff out all the packages. From time to time, I will get a treat from her.

Time for Treats
Mommy loves to teach us new tricks. Daddy loves to cheer us on. Training time is fun because Mommy and Daddy always praise us when we do the tricks correctly. Another advantage of this training time is the goodies. We get to eat delicious goodies whenever we do what Mommy says. Here's our secret; we already know most of the tricks. To earn more goodies, we just pretend to be dumb. The more we get to practice each trick, the more goodies. Bow wow wow!

Well, I will write more next time. I have to go and play with Mommy and Daddy. My last word of advice: if you have a dog, be sure to spend time with it. All dogs love companionship and quality time with their human parents.
